Irfan Pathan was born on 27 October, 1984 in Gujrat India. He belongs to Pathan community. His father wanted him to be Islamic scholar but Pathan & his brother had got a big interest towards cricket. In the opening days, Pathan was not even able to bowl the ball to the other end of the pitch. Pathan was selected for U-15 tournament to represent Baroda in the national tournament. In 2000, Pathan was selected for Indian U-15 cricket team which is a big achievement in his life history. Pathan presented well performance during that series & was selected for U-19 in 2001. Irfan usually bowls more than 20 overs in an innings which shows his interest & devotion towards the game of cricket.

Pathan was selected for U-19 International World Cup 2002 which was held in New Zealand which is a big life award for him. He took 6 wickets with an average of 27.50 & also scored 30 runs with an average of 15. Pathan made his International debut in 2003 against Australia in 2003 in Oval. He was given the responsibility of starting the bowling for Indian team after the injury of Zaheer Khan. Pathan gave 160 runs with an average of 5 but took wicket of Mathew Hayden. In the 4th Test match, he took 2 wickets for 80 runs. That include Steve Waugh & Adam Gilchrist which is a big achievement. He started the inning as an opening bowler in 2004 for the series against Pakistan. He took 12 wickets & helped his team to won the series. Pathan was the leading wicket taker in 2004 Asia Cup where he took 14 wickets with an average of 16.28.
