Amitabh Bachan is an Indian film actor who is known as Shahenshah of Bollywood. He has worked in almost 190 films & span about five decades in Bollywood. He is regarded as one of the most influential actor in the history of Indian cinema. During 1970’s & 1980, he was totally dominating the film industry & was called as “One Man Industry” by French Director. Amitabh Bachan was born on 11 October, 1942. His father Harivansh Rai Srivastava was a well known Awadhi dialect – Hindi poet. Amitabh was first named “Inquilaab”which was later on changed on the suggestion of fellow poet. The meaning of Amitabh was elaborated in Time of India article as “The light that will never die”. Amitabh father died in 2003 & mother in 2007. Bachan studied at Sherwood College, Nainital. Later on, he attended Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi.

Amitabh Bachan Marriage

Amitabh Bachan was married to actress Jaya Bhaduri. They have two children, Shweta Bachan & Abhishek Bachan.

Civilian Awards

  • In 1984, Bachan got Padmi Shri (4th highest Indian Civilian award) from the government of India.
  • In 2001, Amitabh got Padma Bhusha (Indian 3rd highest Civilian award) from government of India.
  • In 2007, he got Kinght of the Legion of Honour (France Highest Civilian award) from Government of France.
  • In 2015, he got Padma Vibhushan (Indian 2nd highest Civilian award) from Indian government.

Honorary Doctorate

Amitabh has seven times got honorary doctorate by various universities including University of Delhi, Jodhpur National University, India for his massive contribution to Indian cinema.

National Honors

  • In 1980, Amitabh got Awadh Samman by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
  • In 2002, Bachan got “Dayawati Modi” award.
  • In 2005, he got Deenanath Mangeshkar award for his massive contribution to Indian cinema.
  • In 2011, he got “Abhinaya Chakravarthy” award by Indian President.
  • In 2014, Amitabh got ANR National Award.
